Continue to live your life with the same amount of dignity and pride you have done so far and let the naysayers and the haters burn in hell. I am really offended by your use of the stereotype "Angry Gay Guy" when referring to Adam Lambert. This is a huge generalization for a wonderfully talented young man. Adam has consistently shown himself to be exceedingly positive and full of love and light. If you have paid any attention to his recent international tour, you would see that he is beloved around the world. To put him in a category and reduce him to the "Angry Gay Guy" is offensive to me, and I'm not even a gay guy. I'm a straight woman but I can't stand for this type of stereotype. You don't allow racist or sexist comments for good reason--but why do you write a homophobic statement like "Angry Gay Guy"? It would be absolutely unacceptable to use a blatant racial stereotype, so why is it acceptable to use a blatant stereotype of gay people? Adam has repeatedly said that he has ZERO intention of carrying a flag for any particular cause at all. He is a singer, and he just happens to be gay. When faced with haters and people who call him offensive names, including "Angry Gay Guy," he has reacted with love and peace. His sexuality is just one part of his identity and has nothing to do with his talent. The only reason it has been in the media is that reporters and interviewers keep bringing it up as if it is his major defining characteristic. As far as Ricky Martin goes, good for him, and I hope that other celebrities be true to themselves. Maybe more people will realize that one's sexuality is only ONE part of their identity, not the defining characteristic.
ReplyDeleteStacey, I personally don't see Adam as entirely angry, but I was using a variation of the term "Angry Black Guy." If you review my blog posts, you'll find I've used the term to describe blacks, whites, gays, and straights....including myself.
