On Wednesday, October 20, 2010 Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has asked that everyone across the nation wear purple to raise awareness for anti-gay bullying. There have been several recent suicides from teenagers who were bullied for being homosexual.
"Go Purple" is the name that is given to this day
. CBS News reports that the color was selected because purple symbolizes "spirit" on the rainbow flag, a symbol for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) pride that was created by Gilbert Baker in 1978.
