Captain America is Chris Evans in new movie

Chris Evans, who's familiar with Marvel Comics characters having worn the costume of "Johnny Storm The Human Torch" in The Fantastic Four Series, will work with Marvel yet again as "Captain America" in a three-movie deal.

Chris Evans signed the agreement today, and reportedly can't wait to get started. Neither can Captain America fans. The movie's target release date is July 22nd, 2011.

The Captain America movie has been in development hell for decades.  A number of treatments and scripts have flown around Hollywood.  But it wasn't until the development of the financing system for Marvel Entertainment movies and the success of movies like Spider Man, that Captain America became a reality.

The last Captain America movie was made in 1990 and had more a TV-movie feel. Here's a clip from that 1990 Captain America:

According to Variety, This Captain America deal calls for three movies starting with The First Avenger: Captain America. Then Chris Evans will join Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Ed Norton (The Incredible Hulk), and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) in the much-anticipated Marvel Entertainment movie The Avengers, slated for May 4th 2012.

Joe Johnston, who directed The Wolfman, will manage Captain America, based on a script to be written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Captain America is the story of Steve Rogers, who's part of a government experiment to create the perfect human weapon to fight the Nazis during World War II (maybe he can help Sandra Bullock against Nazi-bikini-wearing Michelle "Bombshell" McGee.)

Given something called super-solidier-serum, Rogers' body transforms such that he's able to run a mile-a-minute, and bench press up to 1,100 pounds.

Captain America also had a special bulletproof shield he used as a boomerang. Captain America's villain was called The Red Skull and will be played by Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, V)

Like other Marvel Comics cartoons of the 1960s (like Spider Man), Captain America had its own catchy tune. Here it is:

Reportedly there have been several versions of the script for The First Avenger: Captain America, and at least one account reports the take is "knock your socks off."

Stay tuned.

Countering TMZ.com, USA Today and other sources claim that Sandra Bullock and Jesse James are not seeking divorce. The USA Today story lacks a direct quote from Sandra Bullock's publicist, so a call was placed to the person by this blogger just 20 minutes before the posting of this Sandra Bullock and Jesse James update.

There may be another problem, speculatively.

With TMZ.com and publications like In Touch Magazine paying for stories from people involved or claiming to be involved with Sandra Bullock, Jesse James, or Michelle "Bombshell" McGee, it's hard to separate fact from fiction. Some are bring forward stripping videos, and others claim to have photos of Jesse James in a Nazi salute. That story has not been confirmed and this blogger wonders if TMZ.com was taken for a ride?

For example, In Touch Magazine reportedly paid McGee $30,000 for her initial interview that started the whole scandal story. In it, McGee claimed she did not know that Jesse James was still married to Sandra Bullock, but at least one report on US Magazine has surfaced countering that claim.

Confusion reins in the Sandra Bullock, Jesse James, and Michelle "Bombshell" McGee story.

President Obama Signs Health Care Reform into law today (video)

In what will go down as one of the greatest days in American History, President Barack Obama signed Health Care Reform into law today, Tuesday, March 23rd 2010. For anyone who gave up the idea that America cared enough to take care of its' own, this day that Health Care Reform was signed into law should restore their faith in the U.S.A. Here's the video from The Uptake:

President Obama walked into The East Room of The White House with Vice-President Joe Biden and listened as Biden gave one of his trademark speeches of fire, brimstone, and an F-bomb. Then, Obama stepped to the podium and gave a speech that will go down in history not as his best speech, but one of his most emotional speeches. Several times it seemed the President wanted to cry what would be tears of joy, but he did not. President Obama said...

"We are not a nation that scales back its aspirations. We don't fall prey to fear. We are not a nation that does what's easy. That is not who we are, that's not how we got here. We are a nation that faces its challenges and accepts its responsibilities."

Here's the video of Biden's speech:

President Obama explains what will happen this year under Health Care Reform:

In all, it was and is a great day.

But what's not so great are those who fail to read or understand the legislation, and make baseless claims and charges. For example, the idea that suddenly we have "government run" health care. Not true. But in this, we've always had government regulations that impact health care.

Or the idea of some Republican state's attorneys general that Health Care Reform legislation is unconstitutional, and are filing lawsuits on that basis. People do forget that Federal law overtakes state law. That's government 101.

Moreover, there's no provision in the law that states a person must have health care insurance. A person can elect to be uninsured, but they've got to help pay a small amount for those who want to be insured. That's only fair. But even then, if you have a religious objection to health care, you're in the clear.

It's not logical to want to be uninsured and pay nothing, complain about government, then go into the emergency room of a public hospital and ask for government help that others are paying for. There's a term for that kind of person: freeloader.

Is sexual addiction a recognized clinical disorder? A Clinical Psychologist weighs in.

In the fall of 2009, people around the world became transfixed by world-renowned golf champion Tiger Woods, for reasons other than his golfing prowess, when his extramarital affairs became publicly known. Experts and laypersons alike quickly speculated that Tiger was a ‘sex addict’ as alleged details of his sexual endeavors were exposed for public consumption. Many of us read the headlines and watched the news clips with mixed emotion as he and his family struggled to cope with this difficult time. Some of us may have even scrutinized people in our own lives, wondering “could he or she be a sex addict too?” But truthfully, how many of us are actually familiar with the clinical definition of a sex addict? This article serves to clarify sexual addiction as defined by experts in the field of clinical psychology.

Is sexual addiction a recognized clinical disorder?

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) does not currently recognize sex addiction as a mental illness in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM IV-TR), which provides a common language and standard criteria for the classification of mental disorders. Therefore, no official diagnostic criteria exists for sex addiction.

However, the APA has created classifications that are helpful for understanding specific sexual behavior disorders. These disorders are called paraphilias. The most common include:

* Pedophilia — an adult’s sexual attraction toward children
* Exhibitionism — sexual excitement from exposing one’s genitals in public
* Voyeurism — sexual excitement from watching an unsuspecting person
* Sexual masochism — sexual excitement from being the recipient of inflicted or threatened pain
* Sexual sadism — sexual excitement from threatening or administering pain
* Transvestic fetishism — sexual excitement from wearing the clothing of the opposite sex
* Frotteurism — sexual excitement from touching or fondling an unsuspecting person

All of these disorders are characterized by recurrent, intense, sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges or behaviors involving:

* Non-human objects
* The suffering or humiliation of oneself or one’s partner, children or other nonconsenting persons
* Clinically significant distress in social, occupational or other important areas of functioning caused by the behavior, sexual urges or fantasies.

The broad term of sexual addiction may include some of the obsessions and behaviors caused by these disorders. However, sexual addiction typically involves conventional, or nonparaphiliac, sexual behaviors that when taken to an extreme, like alcohol or any other vice, can interfere with daily functioning and produce guilt, shame and recurrent harm to oneself or others.

Symptoms of sexual addiction

While there is no official diagnosis for sex addiction, researchers and clinicians have attempted to define the disorder using criteria based on chemical dependency literature (see CAGE, or DAST both screening tests commonly used by clinicians). They include:

* Frequently engaging in more sex and with more partners than originally intended.
* Being preoccupied with or persistently craving sex; wanting to cut down and/or unsuccessfully attempting to limit sexual activity.
* Thinking of sex to the detriment of other activities such as work, or family or friends, or continually engaging in excessive sexual acts despite a desire to stop.
* Spending considerable time engaging in sexual activities such as searching for partners, viewing pornographic materials, or visiting pornographic web sites.
* Continually engaging in the sexual behavior despite negative consequences, such as failing relationships, unmet work obligations, or potential health risks.
* Escalating scope or frequency of sexual activity to achieve the desired ‘high’, such as increased number or variety of sexual partners, or more time spent at places such as strip clubs, or swingers bars.
* Feeling irritable or depressed when unable to engage in the desired sexual behavior.

You may have a sex addiction problem if you identify with three or more of the above criteria.

Experts in the field describe sex addicts as tending to organize their world around sex in the same way that heroin addicts organize theirs around heroin. Very often, the goal of people with a sexual addiction in social situations is obtaining sexual pleasure.

Tom Hanks to turn Green Day's American Idiot into a movie

According to Mike Fleming over at Nikke Finke's Deadline.com, Berkeley's Grammy Award-winning band Green Day will see its musical version of American Idiot transformed into a feature-length film by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman of Playtone. The last time Tom Hanks produced a stage-to-screen creation was the Abba musical Mamma Mia!

American Idiot The Musical premiered at The Berkeley Rep Theater on September 16, 2009. Here's a video of images from that event, to 21 Guns:

American Idiot was the seventh album produced by Green Day and was released September 21, 2004. It was recorded at Studio 880 in Oakland, California before finished in Los Angeles. American Idiot is a concept album around a character called "Jesus of Suburbia" or "Johnny in the musical. It's a coming-of-age story around his leaving the suburbs for the city and a path of self-discovery that has a tragic and sad end.

While there's little excitement for the American Idiot musical idea based on some of the comments over at Deadline.com, that may be a mistake. Green Day's loyal audience could be the vehicle for success for the Tom Hanks concept. It's certainly worth a go.
