Sarah Palin's Church (Wasilla Bible Church) Hosts Anti-Gay Conversion Conference

Sarah Palin's Church (Wasilla Bible Church) Hosts Anti-Gay Conversion Conference

According to this Associated Press story, the church of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is hosting a kind of conference devoted to the "conversion of Gays" -- no kidding.

Here's the AP text:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.
"You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed since she was a child.
Palin's conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain's candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples.

As I've told anyone and everyone, Palin's popularity is peaking too fast and fueling this search frenzy, which will ultimately result in the decline of her popularity over the next 12 days.
Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization, is conducting the "Love Won Out" Conference in Anchorage, about 30 miles from Wasilla.

WBC is not hosting any anti-gay conversion conference. There was an insert in their bulletin with information about a Focus on the Family conference being held at Abbott Loop Church in Anchorage, some 40 miles from Wasilla. If you want information about Wasilla Bible Church, please feel free to check their website, www.wasillabible.org

I believe WBC is hosting an anti-gay conversion, and I believe that the republicans are in some way giving the church a large donation to cover it up. Vote Obama! Do yourselves a favor!

  3. Anonymous #1 makes more sense than #2, because we all know that this is all about spin.

Oh, and Lindsey Lohan is qualified to be a political commentator.

    My eye.

A church is supporting a message taught by the Bible...what a crime.

I think I shall be sick. I can't figure why people would believe a celebrity (who has clearly shown a lack of judgment on multiple occasions) has any kind of clue who is best for this country.

Especially when she says that Palin needs to stop posing for tabloid covers...ROFL!!!11!!ONE!

No offense, but anyone who thinks Lohan is correct probably has the same dealer.

  5. If Sarah is responsible for the programs and direction of her church then Obama is responsible for the programs and directon of his church. I believe it was a minister of his church which would like to see the US overthrown??

So, lets make our decisions on their stated programs and plans:

Obama, raise taxes, charge corporations a much higher tax rate, weaker defense of this country, blame all failures on someone else, not him, an energy program for the distant future.

McCain, Strong defense of country, win in Iraq, less taxes of corporations, allowing more profits, thus allowing the shareholders an increase in their wealth (remember if you have a 401, you are a shareholder), an energy program for now and for the future.

This is simple for me, McCain.

In making your decision, remember your family's financial position, will it be better or worst with Obama,
will it be better or worst with McCain...

Shame on the everyone! We have come so far in this country for everyone to be eqauls. We have gone through slavery and segergation, womens rights. Have we learned nothing from the past? Gays are people like everyone else. They deserve to be in love, get married, have children, and make a loving family with the partner they love. Gay couples should have rights to family insurance, and all the same tax cuts staight couples have. Just because they are same sex couples does not mean they are not human beings with rights like everyone else. Being gay does not make u an outlaw or contagious as some people tend to react to gays and gay couples showing affection. It sickins me to think that this country is refered to the land of the free and the home of the brave. When our government is singling out gay relationships and are not brave enough to stand up and give them the rights they so deserve.

The point I'm confused about is just because Palin attends this church doesn't mean that she agrees/supports their views. At least I haven't read that she's come out to say that she does.

The other point is why, if she attends this church, is she accused of having the same position on homosexuality? If it does then shouldn't Obama's attendance of his church defines his position as being a racist elitist? And wouldn't his association with Daniel Ayers make him a terrorist?

That's how the left-wingers work. They always have a double standard. They are allowed to point the fingers but at the same time say others cannot point the same finger back at them.

Please everyone...get the facts before making decisions.

As far as Lohan. It seems she's happy with her girlfriend. I wish them all the best, but she doesn't have the resume to be making any political contributions. Her opinion counts, but it's just her opinion.

    Get the facts...

To quote wwstewart: "A church is supporting a message taught by the Bible...what a crime."

Really? Where in the Bible does it say that the power of prayer will heal homosexuality????

Read the Bibile in context before making any judgements. If you are going to agree that homosexuality is wrong, then you have to also agree to cut off your hand if you touch a woman when she's on her period. And you definitely can't partake in Sunday football in any way because "man shall not touch the skin of a pig on the holy day." Also, according to the Bible, if a woman is raped and her screams cannot be heard on the other side of town, then the rape is her fault. This must be where Sarah Palin is coming from when she feels that women should not have the right to choose even in dire circumstances. How unfortunate for all we have done as women.

Either way, as someone who was the victim of a violent hate crime (for holding hands with my partner), I am extremely happy that I had the power of chioce the next day. Also, I am extremely ashamed of the fact that the leader of the free world promotes bigotry. As long as we have someone in power against gay rights, then every ignorant person out there has the excuse to act on their hate. If the government can discriminate, then why can't someone else?

I have plenty of friends who are struggling with homosexuality, and are Christians. It is possible to save someone from homosexuality. Check out an event called Exodus International. It's about gays and lesbians that have transformed their lives. Even if her church IS, in fact, hosting this conference, I don't understand why it's wrong. Even if it were something they were doing that was wrong..why should Sarah Palin be held accountable?

  10. In Relation to > wwstewart < "A church is supporting a message taught by the Bible...what a crime." I say it is not a crime but it is hurtful and wrong to make others feel like they are Weird and Different in a bad way. And Its just another form of discrimination.

I'm so glad to hear that someone finally mentioned Exodus International that "promises" to convert homosexuals! As an "ex-ex-gay" I know first hand that homosexuals CANNOT change their orientation....one can repress it but what makes one excited can't be changed....- that's a matter of biollogy! How do I know? I was one of the victims of this hateful organization for 5 years until my "reformed'ex-gay' counselor" and I got together and left for happiness - and we've been together for 16 years and happy! For an organization to push change through their teachings should be the first red flag b/c if it was truly a sin to be gay then God would free all homosexuals who at one point or the other in their young lifetime most likely begged for "conversion"due to years and years of hate and fear by society- instead of having to use a bunch of humans - God finally answered my prayers when he delivered me from my negative self image and let me learn to accept myself for the beautiful person God created me to be!

When is the American people going to realize that we are supposed to be electing a President to lead the county and not trying to elect a Minister - they way I see it the government needs to stay out of my bedroom!
