Glenn Beck and Alex Jones: Oakland 580 Shooter's Inspiration

Were Fox News talk show host Glenn Beck and 9-11 Conspiracy expert Alex Jones the inspiration for Byron Williams the 580 Freeway Shooter?

We sat down and spoke with Pacifica Radio investigative reporter John Hamilton about his story which first appeared on Media Matters called Progressive Hunter which details what led to the shootout in the wee hours of the morning on July 18th 2010 between 45 year old unemployed white supremacist named Byron Williams and California Highyway patrol last summer.

According to the article Glenn Beck and Alex Jones of prison planet/ infowars were key inspirations for Williams. On the night in question, Williams was enroute to San Francisco where he planned to shoot workers at the Tides Foundation which is an organization that helps distribute funds to left leaning non-profits and political organizations.

When all was said in done that fateful night 3 police officers were left lying in the highway injured. Williams who was wearing body armor had more firepower than the police who eventually subdued him.

Williams in his own chilling words said he was inspired by the attacks exposes put out by Fox News TV host Glenn Beck. We also come to learn that Jones has an even bigger influence.

In the interview below we hear clips from both Beck and Williams who is currently locked up in Santa Rita jail, 20 miles outside of Oakland awaiting trial.

We also talk about the leniency afforded to people like Beck while many others including rappers are shut down and material removed from public airwaves for fear of inciting violence.

This is the first of two parts

In the video below we continue our interview w/ investigative reporter John Hamilton who goes into more detail about the failed assassination plot carried out by Byron Williams.

We hear more about the influence Fox TV host Glenn Beck is having on domestic terrorists. We also focus on the influence Alex Jones had Byron Williams.

  3. Defamation? That's nuts. The blog reports what the shooter himself said. Moreover, Beck and Jones are public figures.

PEOPLE! WAKE UP! All it takes is a few nutjobs to take a valid, if unpopular (with the media) viewpoint and make a case for taking away the first amendment.

A MAJORITY of Americans KNOW there is something fishy going on with their government, several states have even made moves to protect themselves from the federal governments unprecedented and unconstitutional growth in power and size!

Forget Beck, he's a shill, designed to distract curious or even awake citizens from the real sources of the issues in this country. But even he gets people to think twice about the more obvious issues.

Alex Jones is not dangerous... Beck isn't either. Not unless you are one of the sheep, lulled to sleep under the false security of the patriot act and other lies. The Federal Government is the real danger, it has forgotten to be afraid of it's citizens! We the citizens have forgotten that the government should FEAR US not the other way around the way it is now.

Nuts like the shooter mentioned here would find any excuse they needed to go on shooting people, even if Jones and Beck were silenced.

WAKE UP PEOPLE! Your losing your freedom and choices RIGHT NOW! Turn off your TV, look up Alex Jones, or even just talk to people.

Everyone knows somethings happening, but your all too afraid to talk about it. You know I'm right!

Anyone else who is awake give me a thumbs up!

i may not agree with Beck or Jones, but they have the right of freedom of speech. I think that artists should be able to express themselves. People in a "free society" should be responsible for their actions, nobody made this guy shoot any one..He chose to do what he did. after nwa people did not go shoot a bunch of cops..

  6. First of all, Beck is a plant - a sellout. Jones is a hero. But neither of them can be blamed for violence. Neither of them advocate it, except Beck seems to turn on Ron Paul when asked to by his corporate masters.

    Peace against Tyranny.
