Sarah Palin slammed by PETA for shooting Caribou on TV

A scene featuring former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin shooting Caribou in the heart from her show Sarah Palin's Alaska has gotten the attention of PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

This blogger first saw a clip from Palin's show on Chris Matthews' Hardball show on MSNBC fifteen minutes ago before this writing, and sent a quick email to PETA in Washington.

Within six minutes, came this email containing the statement of PETA Vice President Dan Mathews:

Sarah seems to think that resorting to violence and blood and guts may lure people into watching her boring show, but the ratings remain as dead as the poor animals she shoots.

Sarah Palin aims for cruelty
It's one more slam on the former gov, as she inches closer toward an anticipated announcement that she will run for President of The United States.

First, establishment Republicans like Barbara Bush have weighed in saying she should "stay in Alaska," and her son Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush recently switched his support for Palin from "yeah" to "nah" because, he said, he "never goes against" his own mother.

Second, with this scene, Palin has clearly screwed up. The idea that Palin would allow a scene featuring a cross-hair at the heart of an animal is totally psychotic. Just because a person is a hunter doesn't mean they have to slam visual evidence of it, and its cruelty, in the public's collective face.

Just what Palin was thinking, if she was thinking at all, is a good question.

Here's the scene, and I warn you it's graphic.  But I present it to piss you off.  If you have a heart, it should.  If you don't, you'll be upset with me for my take.  So be it.

Here it is:

Sarah Palin Weighs In

On her Facebook page, Governor Palin shows, sadly, that she just doesn't get it:

Tonight's hunting episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska "controversial"?
Really? Unless you've never worn leather shoes, sat upon a leather couch
or eaten a piece of meat, save your condemnation of tonight's episode. I
remain proudly intolerant of anti-hunting hypocrisy. :)

Ok. The question for Governor Palin, is just how does she want to take this? Does this she favors whale-hunting? Why do we have to see Palin shooting an animal in the heart? On television?

If this was done as a ploy for ratings, it's a pretty low moment in Palin's history.

  1. Wow, there's a lot that's surprising about this. I'm probably most impressed by PETA's 6-minute response time, they're smart enough to always keep an eye on Palin's show in case something like this comes up. I can't imagine this is the first or the last time PETA's criticized her.

As for Palin's plans, I think I'm the only one that thinks she doesn't want a presidential run. Palin knows that a failed presidential run could easily diminish her personal brand that she spends so much time building (through 'controversies' such as this). Her name's being floated around as a candidate for RNC chairman (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20024789-503544.html), which would probably be better for her both in her eyes and in the eyes of traditionalist Republicans.

Her justification for her actions is awful, though. Any possible hypocrisy doesn't excuse her unnecessary hunting and its oddly graphic broadcast.

  2. Righteous indignation from folks who promote the killing of unborn babies. What's the slogan save a whale kill a baby.

What part of her family hunting and killing to replenish their food for the winter do they not understand? Believe it or not everyone doesn't shop at Super Walmart for their groceries.

  3. @Meadow under your logic, then, anti-porn advocates are supposed to watch Palin have porn sex on TV.

  4. Naw that's not what I'm saying at all. Turn the channel. Not sure how you made that leap on porn but I guess that's your kind of logic. It didn't bother me seeing them skin the caribou either. I guess knowing that it wasn't a senseless killing made the difference. I grew up in a family that hunted deer and rabbit so I could relate to that lifestyle.

America is one of the greatest countries in the world for it's freedom to pursue whatever happiness you choose, as long as it doesn't impose on someone else's life, liberty or pursuit. Yet we continue to be hounded by folks who want to tell you how to live, what to eat and how to spend our hard earned money.

I admire Palin she represents real women.

  5. Killed it deader' n hell once she got a rifle whose sight had not been knocked out of alignment. Nice shot too.

I love how you all get your panties in a twist over a legitimate hunter taking an animal to feed her family. I suggest if you really want to be so 'ideologically pure' you never step foot in a Wal-Mart or any other store or restaurant that sells meat products. Meat is murder after all, right?

  6. So, do you want to watch Sarah Palin have sex? Would that soil your panties?

As one poster said above, regarding where meat comes from in stores like Walmart, its from sad animals who are born and killed in dark vats packed so tight with other animals they cant even move, tube fed with unnatural products to grow them to extreme sizes to the point where chickens cant even stand. These mutated abominations (which is not their own fault) are then packed and sold for us to eat in most stores. Now we have such highly fat and genetically messed up meat in America that even celebrities cant help themselves from getting fat (Britney, Jessica Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, etc, etc) because the food thats available is simply so bad for you. You literally have to become obsessed with finding organic only foods in supermarkets which are 3x more expensive than regular foods, just to avoid all of this. Well most people dont have the money or time to do this, its easier to just buy that mutant meat and genetic freakshow produce instead.
So in closing, what Palin is doing here should be applauded if anything, this is going back to nature. Back to actual pure meat. What should be critized is all which I have just listed, but not many people take notice or actually try to do anything about that.
