99ers Union: 24 hours until big push for S3706
Last week it was announced that over a dozen net groups full of 99ers united in one big voice to put the strength of their huge numbers into a concentrated push to pass S3706 (The Americans Want to Work Act).
On Wednesday, September 22, 2010 - between 9AM and 9PM they will flex their lobbying muscle in a gigantic fax, call and email campaign to urge the US Senate to bring S3706 to the floor for a vote.
In a show of unity, the various 99er Advocacy groups have coalesced into one large united force to lobby Washington for the Tier 5 Americans Want to Work Act. The Umbrella group will be known as The American 99ers' Union http://www.american99ersunion.com
All members of The American 99ers' Union acting as one will fax, email, and/or make phone calls to their own two Senators, urging them to immediately support and PASS The Americans Want To Work Act, S. 3706. [The exact letter to be sent can be downloaded at http://www.american99ersunion.com]
The recommended action is strategically designed to:
1. Show that we are united in a grassroots movement that is growing in strength and numbers to greatly impact the midterm elections.
2. Provide sound reason and fact as to why this is not only the right thing to do for 99ers, but also supports America's economic recovery by stimulating the economy
3. Inform our Senators that we are watching their votes very closely and we will vote against those who oppose this bill in the November election, encourage our friends and family to vote against them and use the internet and media to encourage the general public to vote against those who will not help Americans who are suffering without unemployment insurance during this national emergency
4. Demonstrate our commitment to use our combined influence to ensure millions of 99ers all across the nation perform the one job they still hold on November 2nd - VOTE for those who have represented and continue to represent our desperate need for extended unemployment insurance and jobs
S3706 is currently languishing in "Committee limbo" within the Senate Finance Committee. This bill MUST be brought to the Senate Floor immediately and passed in time to allow the House to do the same, prior to the next scheduled Congressional recess on October 8, 2010. Passage of this bill before the election is crucial in order to save the lives of millions of hurting Americans currently on the brink of complete financial disaster, hunger and homelessness.
So, now it is time for us to show our strength and numbers to the Senate!
With the midterm elections shaping up to be a tight race, for eventual control of both the House and Senate, unemployed Americans can easily be the deciding factor in who keeps their legislative jobs and which members of Congress join the unemployment lines in November.
To contact The American 99ers' Union call 202-579-9377 (99ERS)
ALL unemployed Americans, their friends and family members who have watched, first hand the devastating suffering 8 months without benefits can induce, are urged to participate in this big push for the survival of the 99er Nation by contacting as many lawmakers as possible.

I think it is important to mention that the UI benefits are needed to support our panicked families while we look for work. The new tax benefits to small companies will not effect their ability to hire overnight. things take time. We are looking for work everyday but rent is still due. No hand outs just give me what I put into the system for thirty years until I can start adding to my retirement again. We supported Wall Street, Detroit. 20 weeks. I bet I only need 10. But I need them yesterday.
ReplyDeletewill get them all out for office and on the street with the rest of us and the well see how the senate and congress like it we should also file investagations into all there dealing while in term to see if any none legale action have been taken by these criminals they are not above the law of this country there all trash in500 suits
ReplyDeleteI spoke with Senator Stabenow's assistant today. Senator Stabenow is doing everything possible to get this passed.
ReplyDeleteThe main one to contact according to her assistant right now is the head of the Senate Finance Committee. Until he brings this up to vote on before the Senate Finance Committee, there can be no vote to even get this to the floor of Congress.

(We need to move quickly, as rumor has it that Senator Reid is being pressured to let Congress recess a week early. And rumor has it that he is contemplating doing so. That means that they will recess by the end of this week, if their request is granted. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. Please move on this respectfully and promptly.)
Off the subject a little but all of you should know if you live in Los Angeles, CA... The "GR" "CASH AID" program within the Dept. of Social Services in LA county is such: I found out last week that the "CASH AID" under "General Relief" that is offered is a "CASH LOAN"! I wonder if people really understand this when "signing" their lives away with all the confusing paperwork... You will have to pay back every penny at the point you start collecting SSI in your golden years. I'm assuming it will then fall on your children's back should you not be able to pay.. I finally was approved for food stamps for the first time in over 2 years, because now I have lost my Unemployment Insurance Benefits. Oh, and last year on the way back from a food stamp DENIAL appeal hearing I lost my only means of transportation, my car. I was in a horrible freeway accident on an LA freeway. The "appeal" was held at the Wilshire District in LA. The judge who presided in my case wasn't even there. He couldn't even bring himself to the appeal hearing. I had to speak to him via conference phone call. All the supporting paperwork I brought to the hearing that supported that I still was in need of food was not even considered. He told me that since I was about 120.00 over the amount to qualify for food stamps, there was nothing he could do. He told me to contact my legislators to try and get the law changed. I was asking for food assistance, because I was hungry and this is what he told me. Shameful.
