Zennie Abraham Takes On CNN's Ali Velshi On Economic Stimulus

For me this was a ton of fun to do. But it's even better when someone takes time to let folks know you did a great job. Such was the case with the CNN iReport and CNN.com, who contacted me regarding my question for CNN's Ali Velshi on what he thought of giving $3,500 to each American taxpayer under $100,000.

Here's the video:

This is what CNN iReport's Rachel8 wrote:

Would you go head-to-head with CNN's top economic expert on an economic stimulus plan? How about live on the air?

Fearless iReport superstar Zennie Abraham did. After submitting an iReport suggesting a taxpayer stimulus package, he discussed his plan with CNN chief business correspondent Ali Velshi on CNN.com/live. Velshi said the plan -- which calls for a $3,500 stimulus check to those making less than $100,000 a year -- was not targeted enough to work. But Zennie courageously defended his idea.

"I disagree, with all due respect," he said to Velshi. "$3,500, particularly for college students or their parents, can help pay for their housing. For a person who's older, that could help pay their mortgage. ...You have to have time for the other aspects of President Obama's programs to work. The idea with this proposal is to buy time for those programs to kick in. I'm not saying that this is a cure-all. It works as part of a package."

And, after hearing the explanation, Velshi started to agree.

"In that context, I can understand that. If we are creating jobs, and we are helping people out with their mortgages, as an added extra, that could work," he said.

Nicely done, Zennie! You really held your own
.

Thanks Rachel! It was a lot of fun and I hope I get the chance to do something like that, again.

Christine McCallum of Abington is teacher charged with 7 counts of child rape

Another Teacher / Student Sex Scandal?

From The PatriotLedger:

Christine McCallum is charged with having more than 300 inappropriate sexual encounters with a young teen over a three-year period. Watch Abington and Rockland police share information during a press conference.

Why does this happen, and how often does it occur? It seems it was a massive pattern three years ago, with a major scandal so often they were almost commonplace. But why?

Prince Harry: Racist Video In Full - Institutional Racist Example

Three years ago Prince Harry decided to either make to be in this video where he makes comments that show he's racially divisive where anyone who's not White is called by names that are considered insulting or divisive.

He uses the term "My little Paki friend" and "raghead" in the video. Look, those are not terms one has flying out of their mouth. It shows a certain lack of thought and consideration at the least.

Prince Harry has apologized for his actions.

Predisdent-elect Barack Obama Weekly Radio/Youtube Address

President-Elect Barack Obama gives his weekly YouTube address and focuses on his economic recovery plan, where he projects that 3.4 million new jobs will be created. He correctly notes -- for the first time any President has -- the problem of the underemployed and not just the unemployed.

I hope Congress gives quick passage of his plan. We're wasting time as it is. I also push for a $3,500 check for all American making less than $100,000 -- it will buy time for his programs to work and help people pay bills and avoid going bankrupt.

Eric Mangini is the New Cleveland Browns Head Coach

Eric Mangini Hired as Head Coach Of the Browns

The Mangenius has a new home-He will be the Coach of the Cleveland Browns, according to various wire service reports this evening(1/7). The Ink isn't even dry on his contract yet (If he even signed it) and his Wikipedia page has already been updated! What a country we live in eh? Speaking of people interested in NFL Head Coaching Jobs, the Jets have indirectly caused the firing of Boston College's Head Man, Jeff Jagodzinski. BC's AD Gene DeFlippo warned "Jags" if he Interviewed for the Jets job he would be terminated. Meanwhile he claims he has a "Stack" of interested head coaching candidates from other schools. Isn't that kind of two faced Gene? You fired your "Close Friend" for wanting to see if he could possibly return to the NFL, but you have no problem poaching a coach from somewhere else? What a Country.....

2008 NFL Season Review-From NFLMedia.com

2008 NFL Season Review
01/02/2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
1/2/09
WOW, WAS ’08 GREAT!

Scoring at a 43-year high…teams turning things around and making the playoffs…rookie first-round quarterbacks starting from Week 1 under rookie head coaches and them all going to the playoffs…Tennessee’s streak…the Giants calmly going about their business…DREW BREES putting on a weekly aerial show…rookie running backs taking over offenses…the solid NFC South…dominating, shut-down defenses…and it all coming down to Week 17 with half the divisions still to be clinched!

“You get everybody’s best every week,” says Tennessee Titans head coach JEFF FISHER, whose club opened the season with a 10-game winning streak.

A perfect example of that approach came in Week 17 when Brees’ Saints – out of the playoff race – still fought the Carolina Panthers down to, literally, the last second of the game before a JOHN KASAY 42-yard field goal won the battle 33-31 and earned the Panthers the NFC South title.

It doesn’t matter what the situation, the commitment and character throughout the NFL shows every week.

“That’s why fans love the NFL,” says the 2008 Associated Press NFL Comeback Player of the Year CHAD PENNINGTON of the Miami Dolphins, who made the playoffs with an 11-5 record after finishing 1-15 the year before. “In any given year, your team can be the surprise team in the league.”

The NFL is built on surprises, week after week, and they lead to the kind of performances that took place in the great 2008:

· Scoring per game was the highest it has been in 43 years. Games averaged 44.1 points, the most since 46.1 in 1965.

· There were six new division winners – Arizona, Carolina, Miami, Minnesota, the New York Giants and Tennessee -- tying 2003 for the most such clubs since realignment was instituted in 2002. “It feels great,” says Carolina quarterback JAKE DELHOMME. “This division is probably the toughest in football.” Well, the NFC South did have the league’s most combined wins (40).

· For the 13th consecutive season, at least five teams made the playoffs that were not in them the year before. Seven clubs -- Arizona, Atlanta, Baltimore, Carolina, Miami, Minnesota and Philadelphia -- accomplished the feat this year, with four of them (Atlanta, Baltimore, Miami and Philadelphia) rebounding from last-place finishes in 2007.

Four of the teams – Atlanta (7-game improvement), Baltimore (6), Carolina (5) and Miami (10) – combined to show a 28-game win-improvement from 2007 to 2008. The Dolphins tied 1999 Indianapolis for the biggest jump in wins (10) in history. “We shocked the world,” says Miami linebacker MATT ROTH. “We shocked ourselves.”

· It was a historic season for rookie head coaches. Three of them – JOHN HARBAUGH in Baltimore, MIKE SMITH in Atlanta and TONY SPARANO in Miami – took their teams to the playoffs. Three rookie coaches doing this in the same season has only happened once before, in 1992 (BILL COWHER, Pittsburgh; DENNIS GREEN, Minnesota; and BOBBY ROSS, San Diego).

· And speaking of rookies: wow, did they do great in ’08!

Nowhere was this more evident than among rookie quarterbacks -- namely, first-round draft choices MATT RYAN of Atlanta and JOE FLACCO of Baltimore. They combined for many singular accomplishments.

First off, they each started all 16 of their teams’ games, the first time two rookies have done that in the same season in the Super Bowl era (1966). They took their clubs to the biggest increase in wins from the season before than any other rookie QBs who started every game (Ryan, plus-7; Flacco, plus-6). Then they became the only 16-game rookies to lead their clubs to the playoffs in the same season. Finally, they will become the first rookie QB duo to start in the same postseason.

“It is unprecedented what they did,” says Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback STEVE YOUNG.

· And the rookie running backs were out there, too! Three of them – STEVE SLATON of Houston (1,282 yards), MATT FORTÉ of Chicago (1,238) and CHRIS JOHNSON of Tennessee (1,228) became the first rookie RB threesome in history to rush for 1,200 yards apiece.

Forté and Slaton also established team rookie rushing records, as did Carolina’s JONATHAN STEWART (836).

· Speaking of rushing, the New York Giants had two teammates become only the fourth running back duo in history to each rush for 1,000 yards. BRANDON JACOBS totaled 1,089 yards and DERRICK WARD 1,025. The Giants led the NFL in rushing with 157.4 yards per game. “Congratulations, we made history,” Jacobs told Ward after the latter reach 1,000 in Week 17.

And “All Day” just kept going. Minnesota Vikings running back ADRIAN “ALL DAY” PETERSON – who led the league in rushing with 1,760 yards -- became only the fifth player in history to rush for 3,000 yards (3,101) in his first two seasons (EARL CAMPBELL, 1978-79; ERIC DICKERSON, 1983-84; EDGERRIN JAMES, 1999-00; and CLINTON PORTIS, 2002-03).

· One of the most vaunted NFL records – season passing yards -- was almost broken, and the man who came close to doing it reacted with typical class when he failed to do so. New Orleans Saints quarterback DREW BREES – whose pregame pep-talk to his teammates became one of the visual benchmarks of the season – fell 16 yards short of breaking DAN MARINO’s NFL season record of 5,084 yards in 1984.

“When I sit back and look at it, that record has stood for a long time,” said Brees. “One of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game owns it.” With his team finishing 8-8, that isn’t “necessarily the way that record deserves to be broken,” said Brees. “That’s why I’m able to accept the fact it didn’t happen.” Brees did become only the second QB in history to throw for 5,000 yards.

· Meanwhile, out in the desert air in Arizona, footballs were filling the sky, as they well might in Hawaii.

The Arizona Cardinals’ passing attack helped the club score its most points ever (424), quarterback KURT WARNER throw for a franchise-record 30 touchdowns, and three receivers match a milestone only reached four times in history.

Cardinals wide receivers LARRY FITZGERALD (1,431 yards) and ANQUAN BOLDIN (1,038) – who will join Warner as the NFC starting QB-WRs tandem in the Pro Bowl on February 8 – and STEVE BREASTON (1,006) became the fifth teammate threesome in history to each post 1,000 receiving yards.

· Through all the offense, defenses were not sleeping! The Baltimore Ravens added to their NFL-best streak of not allowing a 100-yard rusher, raising that number to 35 consecutive games. They also led the league with an NFL-best 26 interceptions, including 16 over their last eight games…Dallas Cowboys linebacker DE MARCUS WARE (20.0) came within three of breaking MICHAEL STRAHAN’s NFL season sack record (22.5)…and the Pittsburgh Steelers placed two players in the top 10 in sacks (JAMES HARRISON, 16.0 and LA MARR WOODLEY, 11.5) – the only team with two in the top-10.

· “From one week to the next in this league, things can change,” says New England Patriots quarterback MATT CASSEL. Nothing exhibits that more than the tightness of NFL games. In 2008, 14 percent were decided in the last two minutes or overtime. In 32 percent of the games, a potential game-winning/tying drive or actual game-winning drive took place within the 20-yard line with two minutes to go.

Games continued to be thisclose. Nearly half were decided by one score:

· The fans could not get enough of it all. Football fans across America continued to tune their televisions to NFL games in huge numbers in 2008. According to Nielsen Media Research, 225 million Americans watched NFL games this season. That is nearly 100 million more than the record number of Americans who voted in the 2008 presidential election (131.2 million).

Mysterious sweet syrup smell wafts over Manhattan again

More at NY Daily Newst: “It's back!
That sweet smell that wafted over the city a few years ago - described as maple syrup, French toast, pancakes and even coffee cake - is in the air again, officials said Tuesday.
The city's 311 system received about 35 calls Monday night from New Yorkers reporting the mysterious scent drifting through parts of upper Manhattan and Queens.
[DO YOU SMELL IT?  Tell us where you are in the city and where you're smelling it in the comments section below.]
"The maple scent was light," a reader with the screen name LuckyLady wrote on nydailynews.com. "While moving around my apartment ... the scent hit me again, only this time it was stronger."
The city Department of Environmental Protection sent inspectors to the areas to conduct air tests.
They confirmed the scent, but the source of the smell is still unknown, officials said.
Another Daily News reader initially thought the smell came from a pine tree.
"I noticed it, and it was strong enough to make me want to know what it was before I got to my corner when I left my apartment," the reader, Page One, wrote on the Web site.”

Senator Harry Reid: ‘I don’t work for Obama’

More at TheHill.com: “Democrats must be “very, very careful” to avoid overreaching and will not rubber-stamp President-elect Obama’s policies, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday.

In an interview with The Hill, Reid said it is essential for Obama and congressional Democrats to work closely with Republicans in the new Congress. He added that 2009 is very different from 1993, the last time Democrats controlled both Congress and the White House.

Back then, Reid said, Democrats had controlled the House for decades and behaved as though the opposition did not exist. This time around, their recent stint in the minority would give them a commitment to bipartisanship.

“Even though we’re one short of 60 [senators in the Democratic Conference], I don’t want to ever have to depend on cloture,” Reid said. “We may have to do that, but it will be with the support of a few Republicans.”

Reid, who lambasted the GOP-led Congress for being a rubber stamp for President Bush, indicated that he will not bow to the Obama administration.

Reid stated, “I don't believe in the executive power trumping everything... I believe in our Constitution, three separate but equal branches of government.”

“If Obama steps over the bounds, I will tell him. … I do not work for Barack Obama. I work with him,” he said.”

Obama says trillion-dollar deficits may last years

More at SFGate.com: “President-elect Barack Obama says the nation probably faces huge deficits for years to come, but heavy spending is needed now to spur the economy.

Obama said Tuesday the deficit appears on track to hit $1 trillion soon. Speaking to reporters after meeting with top economic aides, Obama said: "Potentially we've got trillion-dollar deficits for years to come, even with the economic recovery that we are working on."”

Or is that wishful thinking?

Have you ever seen that "Army of One" commericial? This is one of them:

Well, according to this email I got from AdAge.com, the organization that created the presentation is being accused of overbilling by The Army:

CHICAGO (AdAge.com) -- Leo Burnett will pay $15.5 million to settle allegations that it overbilled the U.S. Army for work on its "Army of One" campaign, the Justice Department announced today. The suit was a result of whistle-blowing by two former Burnett employees. Among the allegations in the lawsuit, filed in 2004: Burnett was treating the work of its own internet unit as if it was performed by a third-party contractor, as well as inflating the costs of subcontractors it worked with, in order to increase its profits. On The Oakland BART Shooting By Police at Fruitvale Sta

The Oakland BART Police Fruitvale Station shooting was a horrifying act of an individual police officer that, upon reflection, went insane for a moment. I'm glad people had video cameras and used them. But I'm not happy with the state of the police in Oakland and the East Bay.

What the officer did to young Oscar Grant was shameful. If you look at the videos, the officer first drags Grant over the station floor then positions him against the ground, and then pulls out his gun slowly then shoots him, but then looks up as if to say "Oh, that was an accident."

It did not look that way.

This should prompt a major investigation into how police are trained and the backgrounds and attitudes of the people that are recruited and how they're trained. There's something wrong and where there's smoke, there's fire.

Now, Oakland Lawyer John Burris has introduced a $25 million lawsuit against the police department and BART, and given the look of the videos -- there are two with very clear angles -- the evidence is clear and hard to refute.

That police officer deliberately shot Oscar Grant.

NBC TODAY SHOW STICKS IT TO ANN COULTER - New York Post

More at the New York Post: “CONTROVERSIAL conservative Ann Coulter blew a gasket yesterday when the "Today" show abruptly canceled an appearance on the day her new book about the Obamas comes out.

The cancellation sparked reports that she had been "banned for life" from NBC and its two cable news networks.

Officially, NBC said that Coulter was bumped from the morning show because of "breaking news."

Behind the scenes, "Today" sources said they needed to make time for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair's mission to the Middle East and President-elect Barack Obama's new plan for an economic stimulus package.”

-- YEAH! And she's angry? So what? That's what she gets for building a career by saying and writing outlandish and tasteless words about people just because their politics are different from hers.

Those days are over -- I hope! Let Ann whine. I love it.

Barack Obama taps Leon Panetta to run CIA

More at chicagotribune.com: “WASHINGTON - President-elect Barack Obama has selected Leon Panetta, a former congressman with little experience on intelligence matters, to serve as the next director of the CIA, according to Democratic officials familiar with the decision.

The selection puts the prominent Democrat in charge of an agency that has been at the center of a storm of criticism in recent years, ranging from intelligence failures leading up to the Sept. 11 attacks to the aggressive tactics that were embraced in its aftermath.

Panetta, who was chief of staff to President Clinton, is regarded as a bright political operative and highly capable manager. But if confirmed by the Senate, he would be among the few directors in agency history with no prior experience at one of the nation's spy services.

-- Or was this a trial balloon to see how Senator Diane Feinstein would react? Whatever the case, she was not happy to have learned the news via the New York Times.

Roland Burris Ego On Display In Washington D.C.

More at chicagotribune.com: “WASHINGTON - Roland Burris and Democratic Party leaders headed toward a symbolic showdown at the door of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday as the former Illinois attorney general presses his claim to a disputed seat.

Burris said in an interview Monday evening that he intends to try to walk onto the Senate floor to be sworn in with incoming senators when the Senate convenes Tuesday despite declarations from party leaders that they will prevent the 71-year-old, longtime politician from entering the legislative body's ornate chamber.

The imagery of authorities stopping a graying African-American man at the threshold of political power promises to be a moment of high drama in a controversy that has joined the complicated politics of race with the sensational corruption scandal swirling around Gov. Rod Blagojevich. The governor, undeterred by criminal charges that he sought to sell the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama, picked Burris last week.”

-- I can't understand the ego of a man like Roland Burris, who knows damn well he's not going to be confirmed or accepted by the Senate and is just opening up a major can of worms. Burris can't be that stupid, which leads me to think something else is up. What, I don't know.

What bothers me even more is that Burris seems to be doing it in the face of his "good friend" as he put it President-Elect Barack Obama. If he were Obama's good friend, he'd have elected not to be Blagojevich's designated selection. Something's afoot.

Al Franken Clear Winner, Schumer Says Should Be Seated

Minnesota Senate Candidate Democrat Al Franken has been declared the clear winner in that state's Senate race, but it seems Republicans want to tie it up in court. Choked-up Obama leaves Chicago - Chicago Breaking News

More at Chicago Breaking News: “Like many Americans, Barack Obama spent today getting things organized so he could head back to work after an extended holiday vacation.

But the president-elect's departure from Chicago's Midway Airport for a flight to Andrews Air Force Base brought with it some emotion, as he left behind an empty home and the city most associated with his historic political rise.

"I gotta say I choked up a little bit leaving my house today," he told reporters aboard a military aircraft that transported him to Washington.”

Gov. Bill Richardson Steps Down As Obama's Commerce Secretary Designate

This breaking news, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson annouced he was stepping down as President-Elect Barack Obama's Commerce Secretary Designate.  The reason given by the Washington Post is that in light of the matter of the Blagojevich Scandal, Richardson reconsidered the importance of an alledged "pay-to-play" investigation in New Mexico.  I learned the news from this email:

Richardson to withdraw as Commerce secretary
New Mexico governor cites pending investigation of business dealings
BREAKING NEWS
NBC News
updated 10:56 a.m. PT, Sun., Jan. 4, 2009
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, tapped in December by President-elect Barack Obama to serve as secretary of Commerce, has withdrawn his name for the position, citing a pending investigation into a company that has done business with his state.

"Let me say unequivocally that I and my Administration have acted properly in all matters and that this investigation will bear out that fact," he said Sunday in a report by NBC News' Andrea Mitchell. "But I have concluded that the ongoing investigation also would have forced an untenable delay in the confirmation process."

A federal grand jury is investigating how a California company that contributed to Richardson's political activities won a lucrative New Mexico state contract.

A person familiar with the proceedings has told The Associated Press that the grand jury is looking into possible "pay-to-play" dealings between CDR Financial Products and someone in a position to push the contract through with the state of New Mexico.

Richardson said he plans to continue in his role as governor. "I appreciate the confidence President-elect Obama has shown in me, and value our friendship and working partnership. I told him that I am eager to serve in the future in any way he deems useful. And like all Americans, I pray for his success and the success of our beloved country."

Obama said Sunday he accepted Richardson's decision to withdraw with 'deep regret.'

"Governor Richardson is an outstanding public servant and would have brought to the job of Commerce Secretary and our economic team great insights accumulated through an extraordinary career in federal and state office," Obama said.

Richardson, 61, was United Nations ambassador and energy secretary during the Clinton administration, and he is in his second term as New Mexico's governor. He also served seven terms in the House of Representatives.

If he had been confirmed by the Senate as secretary of Commerce, he would have taken over a sprawling department that oversees the National Weather Service, the Census Bureau, economic development programs and more.

One of the nation's most prominent Hispanic politicians, Richardson had pledged at the time of his nomination -- in English and Spanish -- to work to renew the economy.

Obama on Sunday gave no indication whom he might name to replace Richardson as the nominee but said "we must move quickly to fill the void left by Governor Richardson's decision."

My take is it's better this happened now rather than go forward into what could be an embarassing Senate confirmation battle.  Now, the question is who should Obama select to take Richardson's place.  I think that person should be more of an economic technocrat than a politician.  More later.

What Israel doesn't want you to see - video

I found this video by YouTuber "Orgueluse" who reports:

"This video clip was taken with a mobile camera immediately after a terrorist Israeli air strike hit a busy market where kids with their mothers and fathers were searching for food to eat from one of the local markets early on Saturday 03, Jan 2009, Gaza.

As you will see, there are no words to describe the terror of the Jewish state of Israhell. This is why Israel is continuously refusing to allow foreign correspondence and reporters from entering Gaza.
Please spread the video widely. Let the world see what their news TV channels won't show about reality of Israel. (YouTube deleted the video minutes after it was uploaded, but it is worth trying again)."

-- I'm a supporter of Israel, but not in this case. The strikes are horrible and on a massive scale. It's as if they're trying to exterminate the culture. I hope YouTube does not remove this video. People need to see it.

I Predict President Obama Will Remove Roland Burris By Executive Order

12challenge: I Predict Obama Will Remove Burris on 12seconds.tv

This is my 12Second.tv prediction challenge: President Barack Obama will remove Roland Burris, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's selection for the Senate, by Executive Order.  It would be a controversial move, but the result would be the order would be passed to Congress perhaps by Burris himself to override the order, then Congress itself would go along with Obama and approve the order under the argument that Burris position and appointment was not by the will of the people of Illinois but done by a Governor who was under indictment for attempting to sell the seat.

Lark Previn: MIA FARROW'S DAUGHTER DIES CHRISTMAS DAY - New York Post

More at New York Post: “A weeping Mia Farrow tenderly placed a hand on the coffin of adopted daughter Lark Previn yesterday after services at a Brooklyn church for the mother of two who died Christmas Day.

Previn, 35, adopted as an orphaned Vietnamese infant by Farrow and her then-husband, conductor Andre Previn, in 1973, died at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. No cause of death was given.

Farrow, 63, and Previn, who also adopted daughters Daisy Previn from Vietnam and Soon-Yi Previn from Korea, and had three biological children, divorced in 1979.

Andre Previn, 79, was among mourners saying a final goodbye to Lark yesterday at St. Saviour's Church in Park Slope.

Although the cause of her death was not disclosed, in 1998, then-husband Christopher McKinzie claimed to Star magazine that Lark became infected with the AIDS virus from a tattooist's dirty needle.”
