Apple CEO Steve Jobs Annouced Apple iTV - Video
If you watch this video of Apple CEO Steve Jobs introducing Apple iTV, you'll see a revolution in digital media unfolding before your very eyes. In the video, he takes a movie downloaded from iTunes and shows it on a large-screen television. That movie, The Incredibles, can also be purchased as a DVD. But if you can use your cheaper (I think) ITunes download version and see it on your big screen television, why would you bother to buy or rent a DVD?
I don't think most people understand the implications of this new product, set to be introduced next month. Here's the video:

What implications? TV didn't end radio. radio didn't
ReplyDeleteend newspapers. What is with all these nabob nay sayers about delivery. No one is surprised by this development except by how long it took.
The point is who controls the content. With the i-tunes Jobs is so worried about being sued he aligns himself with the established cartels. Music the major labels with movies it will be the film studios.
This saves them burning a DVD at worst. The price can be changed once they get hold of the delivery system and is the only choice.
It still is the same status quo. If the studios controls the content you have to go to the studios to make a movie. They have the distribution system. The advertising budget and they can push a film. Ask any indie film maker, you need the studio nod to get
into theatres and on to DVD, cable and finally TV. With i-tunes the studio system keep the nod. This is no revolution.
The one to watch is Google. Democratic film making. Anyone can post and all are EQUAL. Hope they can retain that. That is a revolution. Plus anyone that complains or wants payment to U-Tube about a video from the old media outlets, U-Tube takes it down and they lose millions of eyeballs. They have relented and let U-Tube show their videos. Eyeballs are the name of the game. That is the future. Who controls content? Hope it is us.
