In the video, Kevin sits down on a couch and says that he met Bristol Palin because his uncle worked on the pipeline and got to know Bristol for "the couple of months I was there" and that they conceived a child while he was there. He says she's a nice young lady and that he wants to be a part of the child's life.
Kevin, who's Black and an Obama supporter, also reports that the parents -- Governor Palin and her husband -- have said that they do not want him near their daughter or associated with her. Kevin says, again on video, that he wants to be a part of the child's life. He also says that he does not want to play the "race card" but that the family may have some problem with the public knowing that Palin's daughter had a Black boyfriend.
(Frankly, no one cares about that.)
I sent a message for Kevin to call me to get to the bottom of this.
Watch the video. He certainly seems like he's serious and he explains that he's a musician, gives his contact at his MySpace page, and I'm sure is aware of what could happen to him if he's caught lying, so he must be telling the truth otherwise, why stick his neck out? At first, I thought it was a way for him to promote his songs, but that would be stupid. And given the affinity young teenage white girls have for Black rappers, it's well within possibility they could have hooked up.
The first order of business is to determine if his uncle really works up there. If that's the case, then there's smoke. And where there's smoke, there's fire.
Here's the video. You decide:
Ideologically speaking, I'm a lifelong fence-sitter. (The view up here is good.) For this election I'm a McCain guy. From reading your stuff, I think it's safe to assume you're with Obama. Fair enough. I'm a commander-in-chief/foreign policy voter first in any presidential election, and in this one I'm voting those two traits very nearly to the exclusion of everything else. To that end, I consider McCain the better choice, but if it's Obama I don't fear for the survival of the republic.
ReplyDeleteHaving covered all of the truth in advertising, I thought this was exceptionally flimsy. How is Bristol Palin's pregnancy any of our business, much less an election issue? Does it reflect poorly on her mother's fitness for the vice presidency? If Kevin does not want to play the race card, then why has he done so? Is it somehow not his fault that he did (or has)? Is it possible the family may NOT have a problem with the public knowing Bristol had a black boyfriend? Is it possible the family indeed has a problem with Kevin but that it has nothing at all to do with race?
Aside from his apparent sincerity, how are we to ascertain Kevin is telling the truth? And if he isn't, what exactly could happen to someone who lies on YouTube? How are you sure he's aware of what these consequences are? If he's not, as you think he is, aware of what could happen to him if he's caught lying, does it mean he's NOT telling the truth?
What percentage of white teenage girls have, as you assert, an affinity for black rappers? Is there a study or survey to which you can point me to illuminate this phenomenon? Did you conduct one of your own? If so, how many white teenage girls did you survey, and how many of them actually have hooked up with a black rapper? (Noting your policy that racist comments will be rejected, I'm particularly interested in seeing how you answer these four questions.)
Has Kevin called you as you requested? Does it matter whether or not he does? If his uncle really works in Alaska, does that constitute enough smoke to make this an open and shut case?
What are we really to make of a single video posted to YouTube? What are we to make of commentary that only echoes it? Have you done any real investigation into this, or did you just post it? If it was the latter, what difference is there between your page and Matt Drudge's?
I found this terribly long on innuendo and short on, if not devoid of, facts.
Sean. You kind of reacted emotionally. The text is as I wrote it. I never -- and I feel that I should not have to do this -- said his story was true.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I posted it was 1) his apparent sincerity and 2) the enormous legal punishment that exists if indeed he was wrong.
First, there's defamation of character. That would be because his implication is that Palin's telling a lie. The of course there is the problem of falsely painting Bristol Palin. That's another problem.
So I weighed those risks and felt that his story was worth putting out there because of the enormous risks involved.
I stand by that.
I'm skeptical about the explanation that he was up there because his uncle was working on the pipeline. The closest the Trans-Alaska pipeline gets to Wasilla is Glennallen, which is 151 miles away by winding 2-lane blacktop. Google maps estimates it a a 2 hr 45 minute drive. I know that some highly paid workers are willing to commute long distances, but why would "Kevin"s uncle set up that far away (i.e., in the Wasilla area) instead of in Glennallen? As I said, I'm skeptical.
ReplyDeletePlease expect Kevins page to disappear very shortly.
ReplyDeleteIf you find people reacting very emotionally to the firestorm of controversy around Palin it is because many people are fed up with eight long years of hypocrisy and just doing badly.
If Obama and his family can be ripped apart by the media than we have a right to ask questions of the Republicans, especially when they are so close to being the POTUS. No double standards.
It is a credibility issue. At this time this woman refuses to talk to the press, she has gone back to Alaska.
Accept the fact that racism exists for one and that two it is so deeply embedded that people are unconscious racists. It is what shapes your double standard.
What's good for Obama and his family is also good for McCain and Palin and their families.
He may be telling the truth, he may be lying and if he is not telling the truth he will certainly pay for it I'm sure.
It is ridiculous to try to embarrass Black people into not confronting racism, it is not just merely in our heads.
Zennie, God bless ya for standing by your post, but I simply can't follow your reasoning. And you did in fact say--or very broadly implied--that you thought Kevin was telling the truth. Your exact words were, " . . . so he must be telling the truth otherwise, why stick his neck out?"
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where you're getting the emotion from. Yes my questions were intentionally challenging, simply because I know of no better or faster way to get to the truth. While I find the anonymous post on Alaska geography compelling proof of a lie, I didn't feel like I needed to even work that hard at it. If he was intimate enough with Bristol Palin to get her pregnant, why can he not pronounce her last name properly?
The world is full of liars who come across as perfectly sincere. I think Kevin is one of them.
So, he said they hooked up LAST SUMMER. So, if that was the case, even if they hooked up as late as August or September, the baby would've been born in May or June, NOT in December of this year!
ReplyDeletePlus, her name has been said about a billion times on TV and he still cannot say it right? I don't know what this guy is trying to pull, but it's certainly not the truth.
I'm disappointed in Kevin's judgement here. I will try and contact him again, but what he did was foolish. Of course, the video may be down by now.
ReplyDeleteAnd another thing I just thought of: Bristol goes to Juneau High School, so I'm pretty sure that is where their family lives. Unless they were visiting Wasilla for the summer, he couldn't have met her there.
ReplyDeleteGive me a freaken break. I think he is trying to boost his rapping career. why else would he mention it. also his myspace is draft pick maybe he is trying to get picked for football.
ReplyDeleteIn all, it does not look good for Kevin. I have gone from feeling sorry for him to just plain disgusted with him.
ReplyDeleteHe has not answered my messages to date.
I will keep trying.
Zennie: be careful of who and what you are relying for sources. I'm not talking about Kevin but those who left comments attacking Kevin's credibility. First, Bristol Palin did attend Wasilla High during her junior year but transferred to West Anchorage High School as a senior. Levi plays hockey for Wasilla. Also, a third of all residents of Wasilla commute to Anchorage for work, and there are plently of pipeline jobs in Anchorage. Zennie: you need to be more steadfast in your position and not buckle so fast. you folded like a cheap suit. Hang in there girl!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I do NOT believe that you have folded. I believe that you have looked at the facts and decided that this boy may not be telling the truth.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I still believe that Bristol went to Juneau because I've seen pictures of her at a basketball game with the word Juneau clearly written across the front of it.
And third, I'm amazed at how forceful and opinionated people can be when the are anonymous. My belief is, if you have something controversial to say, you shouldn't hide behind the name "anonymous" to do it. Be as bold as your statements make you out to be. Heck, you could even make up a name! Who would really know? Anyway, the instructions for leaving a comment clearly say that anonymous comments are not allowed.
Now I say, Zennie, don't be bullied by anyone who chooses to remain nameless. Gather facts and come to conclusions on your own.
If you notice his hat on the couch. B with a red brim he's a Blood Gang Member. He doesn't care if he gets in trouble. It's the gangs cause to get somebody else elected who they think they can manipulate. So they try to discredit the republicans.
ReplyDeleteI love how the first guy's comments are like a sweaty denial. What if he's lying? and... well and... and what if he is playing the race card? I would love to see your face when the baby is born.
