Arne Duncan: Obama's Education Secretary - Huff Post

Arne Duncan: Obama's Education Secretary - Huff Post: “CHICAGO — President-elect Barack Obama announced Arne Duncan, the head of the Chicago school system, as education secretary Tuesday and declared that failing to improve classroom instruction is "morally unacceptable for our children."

"When it comes to school reform, Arne is the most hands-on of hands-on practitioners," Obama said, making the announcement at a school that he said has made remarkable progress under Duncan's leadership.

"He's not beholden to any one ideology, and he's worked tirelessly to improve teacher quality," Obama said.”

Inaugural Committee Donors - Presidential Inaugural Committee

Presidential Inaugural Committee | Inaugural Committee Donors From the website:
"In keeping with President-elect Obama’s commitment to changing the way business is done in Washington, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) is taking unprecedented steps to insure transparency in the public reporting of donors to a Presidential Inaugural Committee. This chart will allow you to view, sort, and search virtually real-time information on all donors contributing over $200 to the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Unlike previous inaugural committees, the 2009 PIC does not accept contributions from corporations, political action committees, labor unions, current federally-registered lobbyists, non-U.S. citizens and registered foreign agents and does not accept individual contributions in excess of $50,000."

Bush White House Blocks Blair House From Obamas - The Caucus Blog - NYTimes.com

Sorry, We’re Booked, White House Tells Obamas - The Caucus Blog - NYTimes.com: “CHICAGO—The White House has turned down a request from the family of President-elect Barack Obama to move into Blair House in early January so that his daughters can start school on January 5.

The Obamas were told that Blair House, where incoming presidents usually stay in the five days before Inauguration Day, is booked in early January, a spokesperson to the Obama transition said. “We explored the idea so that the girls could start school on schedule,’ the spokesperson said. “But, there were previously scheduled events and guests that couldn’t be displaced.”

It remained unclear who on Bushes guest list outranked the incoming President.

“It’s not a public schedule,” said Sally McDonough, spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush, in refusing to disclose who was staying at Blair House. “It’s not a question of outranking the Obamas. Blair House will be available to them on January 15.””

Rod Blagojevich, Jesse Jackson Jr, and Tony Soprano

llinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has been indicted for ethics violations connected with a string of actions, including attempting to sell the now vacant Senate seat held by President-Elect Barack Obama. Of the persons considered for the seat, it's reported that Senator #5 offered to raise over a million dollars for the Governor -- it's rumored that the person is Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr.

Jackson moved swiftly to address this issue, holding a press conference where he said that he did meet with the Governor, and for 90 minutes. But he did not offer anything in the way of money. That press conference is here.

Chicago Police Beat Blacks On Election Night - The Untold Story

While people around the country were peacefully celebrating now President-Elect Barack Obama's victory, there were  groups of African Americans that were not able to do so without attack, and all of this happened right in the backyard of President-Elect Obama: Chicago.

Here's one video explaining the events that led to a class-action lawsuit:

In this video below, it's claimed that five White police officers on Chicago's West Side broke into her home and brandished a gun then cursed at her. According to reports, the officers were off-duty and yet went over in unmarked cars to terrorize these Chicagoans. This is the second of three lawsuits  filed and not for the same neighborhood, but for another incident in Chicago:

Something must be done about this and ASAP. President-Elect Obama's selection has sparked a rise in U.S. Hate Crimes , and it's particularly unacceptable for police officers to be involved. The Chicago Police should fire these men without pay.

No allegations against Obama in Illinois: official | Politics | Reuters: “CHICAGO (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama was in no way implicated in the federal corruption charges against the governor of his home state of Illinois, a fellow Democrat, the U.S. prosecutor in the case said on Tuesday.

"I should make clear the complaint makes no allegations about the president-elect whatsoever," said U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.”

Public Works, The Inauguration and the next BailOut Scandal « blog maverickMark Cuban endorses Obama's plan to spend money on public works projects: “In the big picture this is not a major suggestion. Think of it as something that can be done with no downside and long term benefit.

I personally don’t think a stimulus package of checks or rebates to the consumer will work. I believe consumers are so beaten up and fearful of the future that they will put it in the bank.  Of course 20 years ago that would have been a good thing, These days banks don’t appear to be lending those deposits. So there is no primary or secondary stimulus impact.”

Media Matters - Hannity and Bennett excoriated Obama over views shared by prominent Republicans

Media Matters - Hannity and Bennett excoriated Obama over views shared by prominent Republicans: “Summary: Sean Hannity falsely asserted that President-elect Barack Obama "talked about in the campaign cutting tens of millions of dollars in defense spending" when, in fact, Obama said he would cut "tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending." Hannity also asserted that Obama said "[h]e's not gonna weaponize space, slow development of Future Combat Systems" and that he would "set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons" without noting that former Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain and other prominent GOP figures have advocated similar positions.”

-- I'm not a Sean Hannity fan at all.

The U.S. Supreme Court won't review Obama's eligibility to serve - Yahoo! News

Court won't review Obama's eligibility to serve - Yahoo! News: “WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court has turned down an emergency appeal from a New Jersey man who says President-elect Barack Obama is ineligible to be president because he was a British subject at birth.
The court did not comment on its order Monday rejecting the call by Leo Donofrio of East Brunswick, N.J., to intervene in the presidential election. Donofrio says that since Obama had dual nationality at birth — his mother was American and his Kenyan father at the time was a British subject — he cannot possibly be a "natural born citizen," one of the requirements the Constitution lists for eligibility to be president.”

--- The last right-wing-nut Obama attack rejected! Now we can get on with the matter of improving this economy.

Barack Obama On Meet The Press - The Activist President-Elect

President-Elect Barack Obama appeared on the last "Meet The Press" hosted by Tom Brokaw who filed-in masterfully to take the place of Tim Russert after Russert's untimely death earlier this year. On the telecast, Obama presented a plan which can be summed-up as the "Activist President." The convergence of economic problems and President Bush's horrible performance has paved the way for an economically aggressive agenda by Obama that's the child of necessity. Even the most conservative economists agree that a large degree of spending must be done to lift the American Economy.

Thus, Obama talked to Brokaw about the need for such a program and then gave a statement that while he has been a critic of the American Car Industry, it's basically too large to allow to fail, so some kind of managed assistance program will be created for it.

Then, in discussing what plans he and First Lady Michelle Obama have for the White House, Obama said that it was "The People's House" and they planned to celebrate American arts and culture in all of its diversity, even mentioning poetry readings. I personally took Obama to mean that poetry slams, or at least one, would be part of this program. That's huge news if it's true and I don't see why it would not be. Poetry slams are an American-borne art form and the new expression of American urban culture. Since it was reportedly created in Chicago around the time Obama lived there, it's logical to believe the Obamas would introduce the White House to the sub-culture, and vice-versa.

What's so exciting is we finally have a President who reflects the diversity of America and not a part of it. Americans have come to think of the Presidency as the harvest for the rich, White staid upper-crust society and have done so without critical thinking. Obama has forced America to rethink how it's presented itself; now we see a country truly by all the people and for all the people emerging.

Barack Obama is committed to restoring the healthy American Middle Class of the 60s, but to do that will require not only a massive economic package but a return to a kind of economic nationalism not seen in two generations. It's time has come, because our G8 and G20 partners have formed economic programs around a nationalist perspective and it's wrecked America's economy.

Obama on Meet The Press: Economy to get worse before it improves

From the Associated Press: Obama: Economy to get worse before it improves President-elect Barack Obama said the economy seems destined to get worse before it gets better and he pledged a recovery plan "that is equal to the task ahead."

Obama also said in an interview broadcast Sunday that the survival of the domestic car-making capacity is important, yet any bailout must be "conditioned on an auto industry emerging at the end of the process that actually works."

Less than six weeks before he takes office, Obama said that help for homeowners facing foreclosure is an option as part of his plan. He sidestepped a question about when he plans to raise taxes on wealthy Americans.

Obama's interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" was his most extensive since winning the White House more than a month ago.

In the intervening weeks, the economy has showed clear signs of worsening. Employers said they eliminated more than 500,000 jobs in November alone and retailers reported disappointing holiday-season sales.

"The economy is going to get worse before it gets better," he said twice in the early moments of the interview, taped Saturday in Chicago.

The president-elect announced on Saturday he would call for the most massive spending on public works since the creation of the interstate highway system a half-century ago. In a word of caution to powerful lawmakers, he said the first priority would be "shovel-ready" projects _ those that could create jobs rights away.

Obama Chief Speech Writer Jon Favreau In "Grabby" Hillary Clinton Statue Photo

I found this picture on the iReport front page, right where one could not miss it at the time - it may have rolled down off the front page by now.  I'm surprised no one from CNN tagged it "On CNN" but on second thought, I can understand why CNN hasn't touched it yet.

But yes, the man on the left in the photo below is none other than Barack Obama's now famous chief speech writer Jon Favreau,  who has the same name as Iron Man director Jon Favreau , but in a different pose.  He's obviously having a great time with a cut-out photo statue of Senator and now Secretary of State-Designate Hillary Clinton.  I don't know who the guy on the right wearing the "Obama Staff" shirt and kissing the cut-out is.

Oprah: Sarah Palin Is Snubbing Me Personally, I don't think Oprah should lose sleep over this. Palin's issue may be one of skin color and politics. I hope I'm wrong, but Governor Palin has a lot of growing to do in the area of race-relations. She's still in the 20th Century.
