Sunday Preview

I know that Zennie has yet to post a lot of our Saturday recap (and there's some great stuff for y'all to see), but I thought I'd go ahead and give you a preview of what we'll be covering for you today. Here's a snapshot of what our day should look like:

9:00 AM Press credential distribution begins
Young Democrats National Committee Meeting

10:00 AM Convention Kick-off Press Briefing with Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sebelius, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, and TX State Senator Leticia Van de Putte

11:30 AM Credentials Committee Meeting to discuss, among other things, the seating of delegates

12:30 PM Western Round-up (press avail) with Janet Napolitano, Ken Salazar, etc.

2:00 PM Interfaith Gathering

9:00 PM Young Democrats Kick-off Party

Today looks like our lightest day, which will hopefully give us all a chance to catch up on some much needed rest before the Convention kicks off in earnest tomorrow.

Christine Pelosi On Obama, Clinton, And The California Democratic Party's Denver Shindig Location

This is the first video kicking off our coverage of the Democratic National Convention and events leading up to it. This one was a $2,300 a plate fundraiser for Barack Obama at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, CA, Sunday August 17th, 2008.

As part of the event, an Obama Rally was held outside of the hotel. Two, perhaps three people with bullhorns were leading the crowd in "Obama" cheers, and one I recognized.

Christine Pelosi, daughter of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the author of the well-received book "Campaign Boot Camp" a guide to successful campaigning, as well as a California Superdelegate supporting Senator Barack Obama.

I asked Christine about having Hillary's name placed in nomination and she skillfully ducked the question as only she can do. Instead, she said she was looking forward to the voting process, and reminds us that she's been a delegate since 1996.

Then Christine informed me that the California Delegation will have its party Wednesday Night at the Denver Museum of Natural History. So, if you're coming to Denver and are a Californian with political connections, that's the place to be.

Senator Obama and Speaker Pelosi Relationship Speculation Shows Media Think It Knows Every Move of Obama

Senator Obama and Speaker Pelosi Relationship Speculation Shows Media Think It Knows Every Move of Obama

I just read this SF Gate article entitled "How Pelosi might work with a President Obama". The author, Zachary Coile, of the Chronicle Washington Bureau, writes:

After Obama arrived in the Senate in 2005, the pair saw each other occasionally at official events or private dinners. Since he became the presumptive nominee, they have spoken by phone several times, aides said. But they have yet to have a formal meeting to discuss their agendas or plot strategy for the fall campaign.

But how the hell does he know that "they have yet to have a formal meeting to discuss their agendas"? Having worked in politics, I can tell you that an elected official does not always tell everyone where they're going or who they're meeting. Moreover, some of the best deals are done at "private dinners", but you would not know that reading Coile's article.

What bothers me more is that people will read the article and think Coile's totally right, then quote it to someone else, who will talk to another person.

And so the spread of what is a total misunderstanding of politics continues.

Clinton Backer Geraldine Ferraro Steps Down But Leaves Warning

Geraldine Ferraro stepped down from her post on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's Finance Committee (no wonder they lost money), but left this letter to Clinton obtained by CNN's Suzanne Malveaux, which, to me, serves as a warning to Clinton and the Democratic Party:

Dear Hillary -

I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign.

The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you.

I won't let that happen.

Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to make this a better world for my children and grandchildren.

You have my deep admiration and respect.

Gerry

What this says to me is that Ferraro will continue to be a divisive force in the Democratic Party. What's bothersome is that she refuses to see that she's causing damage. She will drive a great many people to Barack Obama. I say, Horray! for this, but I'm concerned about the Democratic Party and I think Pelosi needs to step in and stop this crap once and for all.

Nancy Pelosi's Annoucement Today - Video

This is a vlog I made at the Fairmount Hotel after a great luncheon hosted by DCCC.org and for Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi. The vlog's about The Speaker's annoucement on the War in Iraq.
