White Democratic Racism Could Cost Democrats A Victory In November

I just saw this disturbing new report by AP - Yahoo which explains that there's enough racism from Whites in the Democratic Party to possibly cause Democrats to lose the election.

It's hard to read, but it's there. And it addresses issues I've tackled this entire election. What has to be communicated is this: racism is a mental illness, and this is a great example of why. Some people who are White, would rather cut off their nose than pick the person from their own party to win an election just because he has brown skin.

Repeat that.

Repeat it again.

Say it one more time.

If that describes you and you're reading this, do us all a favor: vote Democrat, then see a doctor to get help solving your problem. I'm sorry I don't have anything kind to say, but a little truth is in order -- that's a nutso way to think. I don't care if you learned it from your parents or watched too much television, it's just a simple out-and-out retarded and dangerous way of thinking.

Don't do it. Stop it. And stop working to hurt my party by harming yourself. Of course, you could also just leave the party. If you are that stupid, go away. If you're smart, you'll stick around. But no one should want to be thought of as racist because that basically means you're a pretty fucked up person.

Barack Obama Maintains Five - Point Lead In Gallup Daily Poll

For some reason, CNN's not reporting the Gallup Daily Poll, which shows Senator Barack Obama ahead of Senator John McCain by a consistent five points. Right now, it's 47 percent versus 42 percent. What bothers me is that the polls imply that there are equal number of registered Democrats and Republicans, when in point of fact, more Democrats have turned out to vote than Republicans.

What's going on?

More later.

Barack Obama's Giving A Great Speech On Patriotism Now

Senator Barack Obama's on CNN now this morning, giving a great and stemwinding speech on the meaning of Patriotism from Independence, Missouri, which includes this line: "Mark Twain said that Patriotism was being proud of your country all the time and your government, when it deserves it."

My feelings, exactly. I think Republicans and fans of the current war and American aggression at home and abroad forget that. I don't have to support my government's decisions because it's part of America. I can question what my government does and still be a patriot. In fact, that's the real ideal of America.

"True Patriotism," Obama said, "can not be forced or legislated."

Clinton Lost Black Democratic Base - Can't Win Without It

In launching what many feel has been a loser strategy Senator Clinton too a number of actions that have served to virtually eliminate her Black support. For the first time in Democratic Party history since the passage of the Civil Rights Act, a presidential candidate close to the nomination can't count on Blacks for support.

Now -- according to CNN's American Morning -- her African American support is down to "single digits". That means over 90 percent of Blacks don't back her -- or more to the point support Senator Barack Obama. Thus, one can make the argument that Clinton would have a harder time wining a race against John McCain, because Blacks don't support her and may even jump over to the Republican Party to help Senartor John McCain.

Ouch.

Larry Craig - Barney Frank Attacks Republicans For Being Hypocritical On Gays

This is a classic exchange I saw over at Wonkette, and will repeat here in the form of the YouTube video that caused the post. Here it is:

This was uploaded in October of 2006, proving how much of an impact YouTube itself is having on politics because its developing into a kind of cultural archive.

Here's the story of what Larry Craig supposedly did according to CNN.com:

WASHINGTON (CNN) – CNN has obtained the June 11, 2007 police report detailing Idaho Sen. Larry Craig's disorderly conduct arrest in an airport bathroom.

In the report, the arresting officer alleges that Craig lingered outside a restroom stall where the officer was sitting, then entered the stall next door and blocked the stall door with his luggage. (Read the report [PDF])

According to the report, Craig tapped his right foot, which the officer said he recognized "as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct."

"Craig tapped his toes several times and moved his foot closer to my foot," the report states. "I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area."

At that point, the officer said he put his police identification down by the floor so Craig could see it, and informed the senator that he was under arrest, before any sexual contact took place.

Craig, who agreed to plead guilty to disorderly conduct, denied to the officer he was engaging in any inappropriate activity.

According to the report, Craig told the police that "he has a wide stance when going to the bathroom and that his foot may have touched mine [the officer's]."

Antonio Villaraigosa's Affair - Horndog Mayor Has Hillary Clinton In A Bind - RadarOnline

It isn't only Antonio Villaraigosa's political rivals who are gleeful over the Los Angeles mayor's extramarital exploits. Democratic presidential hopefuls not named Hillary Clinton are snickering at how one of the party frontrunner's most coveted supporters has suddenly become a potential embarrassment.

Villaraigosa, who serves as one of four national co-chairmen of Clinton's campaign, admitted earlier this week that he's been having an affair with Telemundo news anchor Mirthala Salinas. Villaraigosa's wife Corina—the two merged their last names, Villar and Raigosa, when they married in 1987—announced their separation last month. (Salinas has been pulled off of the air while her bosses look into whether she violated the station's ethics rules.)

A rising star in the Democratic party, Villaraigosa's endorsement had been heavily courted by other candidates, especially New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, the only Hispanic in the race. "They're probably pretty relieved now that they didn't win that one," laughs an insider from another campaign.

Villaraigosa's revelation leaves Clinton in a bind, says the insider. "They want people to forget all the ethical, marital partisan wars that were being waged" during Bill Clinton's time in office, and "this is exactly the type of scandal that's going to remind people of that." On the other hand, "it would be very difficult for them to walk away from someone who's widely viewed as one of the most influential Hispanic politicians in the country."

"They're highly motivated to find a way to justify keeping him," agrees a strategist from another campaign. "Where they are going to find themselves in a tough situation is if Mrs. Villaraigosa goes to the mat the way [Rudy] Giuliani's wife did. If she gets militant about the divorce, they are going to be in an incredibly awkward situation."

For now, Clinton's best response is probably to do nothing, says a former Democratic consultant. "The Clintons don't stick with people who become liabilities, but to get rid of him would invite comparisons they don't want," he says. "Bottom line, she's a bigger punchline if she throws him off."

CNN Shows It's Anti-Obama Bias Again Today - Issues Don Lemon To Do Hit

CNN -- every working to downplay the shining star that is Senator Barack Obama along with the USA Today -- has shown it's anti-Obama bias again today. In a segment on the appearance of Senator Obama and Gov. Bill Richardson at the "Take Back America" rally, CNN devoted over 30 second to Richardson's more reasoned statements, while giving Senator Obama just 10 seconds and showing him in what were obviously closing statements of excitement.

Then, anchor Don Lemon is instructed to read a teleprompter which reports that Richardson crticized all the presidential candidates, "including Obama."

CNN's presidential coverage is just plain biased and terrible.

Why Are You A Democrat? - Democrats Give Their Reasons

I asked this question to Democrats attending a Democratic Party fundraiser in San Francisco earlier this year. I got a variety of responses but all seem to center around the theme of equality and social justice.

I was so inspired in part by this and by the support for Barack Obama that I purchased the music from Buffalo Springfield "For What It's Worth" and used it as the back music for this two minute video. Take a look. Why are you a Democrat?

Senator Barack Obama Ties Senator Clinton In Polls - Chicago Sun Times Not Happy

Senator Barack Obama's now tied with Senator Hillary Clinton in the latest USA Today / Gallup Poll. But that's not something the Chicago Sun Times wants you to know. They immediately came out with an article that tries to douse water on this news, by saying that all other polls show him behind her.

The trouble is those polls are old. The Sun Times reporter who wrote this, Scott Fornek, was either trying to help in some small way to cause Barack to lose the race, or he was just plain being sloppy. Whatver the case, I wrote this letter:

Hi Scott,

I read your article on Senator Obama's tie in the polls with Senator
Clinton. I'm writing because I'm plain sick and tired of how the
media -- including you -- distorts any positive news about Senator
Obama because it seems you don't want someone black and male in the
White House.

Look, the USA Today poll was just released; why compare it with older
polls which show him behind, but you report it as if these polls were
out on the same date. They were not. The point you should make is to
show how Senator Obama's campaign is picking up steam, because that's
what your own information shows.

Please stop trying to manipulate a message and just report the news.

Thanks,

Barack Obama Hosted By Sen. Barbara Boxer In San Francisco

You know you've reached star status when -- even though you're a US senator -- they just call you by your name and not your title. Such is true for US Senator and Candidate for President of The United States, Barack Obama.

They just call him Barack Obama.

Senator Barack Obama (D) Illinois, appeared as the star of a rousing February 19th fund-raiser hosted by Senator Barbara Boxer at The Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco's Union Square.

The event drew almost 2,000 people, if not a little more than that number. (And reports with the estimate at 1,000 are just plain wrong. I was there, and I can count.)

What was surprising to me was the number of true voters who turned out. The crowd was most older, white, and liberal, and for the trained eye consisted of some of the Bay Area's most active political citizens. But to be sure, there was a healthy percentage of younger voters as well -- between 20 and 45 years old. And remember all paid between $150 and $2,000, so this wasn't a free event. It sold out the week before it was set to commence.

Personally, I was blown away by Barack Obama. And I've worked for four politicians and donated to several campaigns. Part of Senator Obama's appeal is that he really has his pulse on the problem America faces and that's a belief crisis. Our leaders don't represent us anymore; they stand for their own desires. One doesn't get the impression that Senator Obama has an agenda separate from that of the American People. He knows we're suffering from seeing people killed overseas and going without help in a hurricane-wrecked New Orleans. He knows we're tired of seeing our leaders preside over a vastly imbalanced spread of resources going where they don't help Americans (the Mid East) while people in the South (Louisiana) are still suffering. He gets that we have a massive leadership crisis, yet doesn't step in like Superman, he just has the courage to point his hand in another direction and say "This is where we should go."

I know that's heavy, but it doesn't begin to describe how much people are energized by him and his run for president. It's one thing to hear about it, but you've got to be a part of it to understand.

He's the real deal and with the total knack for saying the right words. All of that is evident in this video.

As a note, you may wonder why I chose the theme song to the television show "Friends." I tried the music as an experiment in part of the video, and was struck by how perfect the message "I'll be there for you" seemed to describe the relationship between Senator Obama and his supporters. The theme, like the Senator's book "The Audacity of Hope" is about hope, and thus is perfect for this video, if not his candidacy.

Dick Harpootlian Endorses Barack Obama - Former South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman

Former SC Democratic Party chairman endorses Obama
Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. - A former chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party said Monday he would throw his support behind presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

"I see in Barack Obama ... the same magnetism I saw in Bill Clinton," said Dick Harpootlian, who met with the Illinois senator during Obama's first campaign visit to this early voting state Friday.

Harpootlian's announcement came as New York Sen. Hillary Clinton made her first campaign trek through South Carolina. Harpootlian, who has in the past called Hillary Clinton a polarizing political figure, downplayed his comments Monday and said she or any of the Democratic candidates would make a fine president.

But he said Obama was the embodiment of Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream that people be judged by their character, not their skin color.

Harpootlian said he would immediately begin fundraising for Obama.

"I think it will be easy to raise money for him," Harpootlian said.
