BART Bay Area Rapid Transit's Future Is In Sports Events At Stadiums & Arenas Along BART Routes
I happened on a post in Linkedin by Warren Logan which reads "Transit isn’t just for the suburban commuter headed to and from a downtown office. It’s also about the late night bar crawl with friends, a spontaneous trip to nature, and even meeting your future sweetheart.
Samantha Roxas and I sat down with Alicia Trost to hear why BART is organizing speed dating events, comedy festivals and Halloween haunted houses on their trains.
Cue the eye roll I’m sure some of you just made given the very real questions about how we’re going to save BART this fall at the ballot box.
We called out this exact tension so listen closely to Alicia’s answer about how saving public transit isn’t JUST about fare box recovery (though it’s a MAJOR PART!), it’s also about people falling in love with public transit. "
Well I disagree. Public Transit must serve the people and in order for that to happen, it must go where people want to go. People work out of homes, but they go to sports events. The San Francisco Bay Area, and especially Oakland, need more up-to-date sports venues. So BART should be keenly talking to and helping to estabish an Oakland Sports Commission and also advocate for a fully-developed sports city at the Oakland Coliseum. They should do the same for places around the Bay Area.
