Toyota predicts first ever loss as sales drop - Dec. 22, 2008

More at CNN.com - Dec. 22, 2008: “NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Japanese auto giant Toyota said Monday that it would suffer an operating loss due to plummeting auto sales and a strong local currency.

About 30 minutes after the market closed in Tokyo, Toyota said it expected to lose approximately $1.5 billion to $1.7 billion this fiscal year. Toyota reports earnings on a fiscal calendar beginning in April.

This would be Toyota's first operating loss since 1950, Toyota spokesman Steve Curtis said.

Despite the likely operating loss, Toyota expects to post a $557 million net profit for the fiscal year. The profit stems, in large part, from joint ventures whose revenues are not included in the automakers' accounting for its operating profits.”

--- This should show others that it's not just American car companies that are hurt by this economy.

New Dodge Challenger Like The Old Dodge Challenger.

Dodge came out with a new Challenger, which reminds me of the old Challenger of the 70s, but I guess that's the point.

Tata's Nano - I Want One! Inexpensive Auto Takes World By Storm

This car you're about to see in this video is just $2,500 and has already taken the World by storm. The timing of the car's introduction -- just on the heels of a recession here in America -- could not have been more perfect.

I want one of these, except the rear trunk space is small, but you know what, so what!

If this is successful, and it already is, the Tata Nano will force American firms to make cars at prices that are competitive with this. But by the time they catch up with Tata, the Nano will have been a World hit.

As for "what is Tata Motors?" It's not a small company, although I'd not heard of them before. But their website expains that.."Tata Motors is India's largest automobile company, with revenues of US $ 7.2 billion in 2006-2007. With over 4 million Tata vehicles plying in India, it is the leader in commercial vehicles and the second largest in passenger vehicles. It is also the world's fifth largest medium and heavy truck manufacturer and the second largest heavy bus manufacturer.",

Let's keep an eye on this car as the month's progress. I'll check to learn when it is to hit America!

Bauer's SF Limo's Green Initiative - Blog Action Day

On Blog Action Day, we are all concerned about the environment. But the real heroes are those people and organizations that have actually made and effort to "Go Green."

Bauer's Transportation is one of those heroes.

On it's website, Bauer's explains...

What is Bauer's iCars division? -- As Limousine Digest "Operator of the Year", Bauer's has continually addressed the need to be an industry leader in looking to the future. Because of it's large fleet of over 120 vehicles, Bauer's takes its environmental impact very seriously and has always been conscientious in working with corporate America to provide solutions.

The Hybrid sedans are only one of many vehicles in the fleet that are environmentally friendly:
Bauer's has been in the clean air business since 1999 with its airport shuttle fleet of electric buses.
Bauer's partnered in 2005 with Google to add an additional 33 bio-diesel shuttles to the fleet to service Google employees.
Bauer's is the first limousine company to team up with community partners to address clean air issues with it's park enhancement initiative. A portion of every dollar goes back into local community park efforts to continue the Bauer's legacy of corporate responsibility.

The RX 400H SUV is the third generation of Lexus hybrids, which works by seamlessly integrating a gas engine, an electric motor and a high-powered battery. The battery provides power for the electric motor and is recharged by recapturing energy that would normally be lost when decelerating or coasting. This recapturing of energy is called regenerative braking. If needed, power from the hybrid's gas engine can be diverted to recharge the battery as well. Because of these charging strategies, hybrid cars never need to be plugged in.

But Bauer's is so serious about this initiative, it's President even owns a Lexus Hyrbid!

Nice work for the environment. To learn more, call Bauer's at 1-800-LIMO-OUT
