Open letter to John McCain: Bureaucrats and Health Care

What would you advise, my friend? You say you’re in favor of changing everything that’s wrong in Washington, you’re trying to reclaim your old label as a maverick, and distance yourself as far as you can from Bush after voting with him about 90% of the time - but leaving health care the way it is because Obama thought up changing it first? That's toadying up to the lobbyists from big insurance companies, that's politics as usual, and believe me, maverick, our health care system ISN'T working for everybody.

Trust a nurseHere's a story of how insurance-based health care decisions worked against a woman who suffered nerve damage during the birth of her second child. Health Partners changed her medication/treatment without consulting her records, or her doctor... no medical professionals were involved, just a clerk delivering news that her treatment was no longer eligible for coverage because nobody at Health Partners took the time to even read her diagnosis, let alone get a proper medical evaluation of her symptoms and the treatment protocol. It was medical decision making based on profit.

I could retire on the money Senator McCain is paying the lobbyists on his campaign staff. How is this change? You can't just SAY you're for change because you're scared to be aligned with the President... especially when you support nearly every initiative or policy he's undertaken. Come on, Senator, tell us please: How do you cave on torture? How do you argue we should throw the bums out when you're one of the most senior legislators? How can you tell voters that Obama's wrong to try to improve health care and look yourself in the mirror?

While I'm at it: How can you pretend Palin's against earmarks?

Seriously, my friend: WTF?

John McCain Believes Iraq Had Weapons Of Mass Destruction They Never Had

Yikes! Senator John McCain is really out of it. He now says that had Sadamm Hussein never been captured, he would have used his weapons of mass destruction. McCain also asserts that the high price of oil justifies the Iraq War.

But here's the kicker: there were never any weapons of mass destruction.

McCain thinks Americans are stupid. Either that, or he is himself.

John Edwards' and Rielle Hunter Meetup Confirmed By Security Guard

Monday nights's report of John Edwards visit to alleged mistress Rielle Hunter's hotel room to see her and her new baby was confirmed by a security guard on the scene. It's a sad tale, with reports of "a shaken and ashen-faced Edwards" in it.

"Mindess McCain" - My New Name For John McCain And His Errors

"Mindess McCain" - My New Name For John McCain And His Errors

We've seen day after day of Senator John McCain's errors, from talking about countries that don't exist to saying that Iraq's boarder is next to Afghanistan, and forgetting that we attacked Afghanistan before we attacked Iraq. What else is next?

Well, I'm calling him Mindless McCain, because at times he doesn't seem to think about what he says at all. He just talks.

Gallup And Rasmussen Polls Both Have Obama Ahead By A Hair

I just looked at both the Gallup and the Rasmussen daily tracking polls and Senator Barack Obama's ahead of Senator John McCain by just three percent in the first, 47 to 44 percent and one percent in the last, 45 to 44 percent. But I can't figure out why other than racism. That's the element not adressed, but I also believe that the number of young people polled is not in proportion to their numbers or turnout.

Both polls survey "likely voters" which tend to be older than 45 years of age, and that's where McCain does better. So, we're going to see these numbers -- wrong though they are -- for awhile. John McCain's making a lot of mistakes and the media's not hammering him on them, like talking about a country that does not exist, or today, saying that Iraq is on the boarder of Afghanistan when it's no where near it.

Either someone's not paying attention or they're just plain, well, it's got to be racism -- that's the only mental illness that could explain this.

McCain's no economist, he's confused about Obama's tax plan - and apparently his own, too!

Senator Obama’s plan will not raise taxes - it WILL provide a bigger break for middle class Americans than Senator McCain’s plan. As numerous outside observers agree: McCAIN’S claims that Obama will raise taxes are “WRONG,” “FALSE,” “MISLEADING”

Do you trust factcheck.org? That' s one of many sources cited in the article McCain’s claims that Obama will raise taxes are wrong.

It’s misleading to tag Obama for something that was built in to the Bush tax cuts. Remember that they are set to auto-expire - that's the law Bush signed.

Senator McCain has announced that he would balance the budget by 2013.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that the unified budget deficit will be $443 billion in 2013 assuming that expiring tax cuts are extended. To balance the budget in that year John McCain would have to pay for all of his campaign proposals plus cut another $443 billion of spending. To give a sense of why this pledge is not credible, cutting spending by $443 billion would require:
  • Cutting Medicare by 81 percent OR
  • Cutting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid by 33 percent OR
  • Cutting non-defense discretionary spending – which pays for education, veterans, air traffic control and justice – by 79 percent

And these spending cuts would be on top of the hundreds of billions of dollars of spending cuts Senator McCain needs to pay for his existing proposals including: increasing defense spending, cutting corporate taxes, eliminating the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), and a small tax cut for middle class families with children (a total of $125 for middle class families with 2 children and $0 for 101 million households who do not qualify). The New York Times has estimated that Senator McCain’s budget plan “will add $200 billion to $300 billion or, depending on his voluntary tax system, even more” annually to the deficit.

Without these offsets and spending cuts, the McCain budget would leave a deficit of at least $650 billion to $750 billion in 2013 alone. No wonder so many Republicans are now reporting that they’ll vote for Barack Obama in November.

Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo Supporter of Senator John McCain

Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo Supporter of Senator John McCain

Ok, so Senator John McCain has tried to hammer Barack Obama today for having Washington Legend Jim Johnson on a team assembled to find a VP candidate for Senator Barack Obama, when as it turns out, Johnson got a mortgage loan from Countrywide Financial and a good one reportedly due to his relationship with the CEO Angelo Mozilo.

Of course, that has nothing to do with the campaign or Barack Obama. Yet, the McCain staffers and McCain have pounced on this bit of news and Senator Obama accepted Johnson's resignation today.

Well, I guess that means Senator John McCain should give back the $1,000 Angelo Mozilo gave to him. That's right. Angelo Mozilo, the CEO of Countrywide Financial, is a supporter of John McCain and gives money only to Republican candidates.

I found this news about Mozillo over at Newsmeat.com.

It seems that Mozillo has given to first Rudy Giuliani, then Elton Gallegy, who was running for Congress, and Mary Bono. He lives in Westlake Village, CA. Mozillo has not given, nor the Barack Obama seek, a donation.

So while Barack Obama has no connection to the head of the firm under Federal investigation in the subprime lending controversy, John McCain does. McCain was also one of the focal points of the Keating Five Scandal.

Bigotry On John McCain's Website: Hillary Clinton A "Bitch; Obama A "Muslim Fag"

AMERICAblog's John Aravosis uncovers major bigotry over at John McCain's website, including references to Senator Hillary Clinton as a "bitch", Senator Barack Obama as a "Muslim Fag" and America bringing 9/11 on itself.

Plus, the JedReport shows that other John McCain forums have Obama referred to using the "N" word.

This is not who we want representing America as President. Because John McCain and his staff allow this on their websites, you have to believe they agree with it.

Scott McClellan Will Testify On Bush Administration and War

Scott McClellan is set to spill more beans about the Bush Administration and the Irag War intelligence controversy when he appears before Congress to testify before the House Judiciary Committee at a date to be set. This matter shows signs of only getting deeper and deeper and really can't come at a worst time for Republican Senator John McCain as he's campaigning for President.

McCain's Infidelity Mentioned By "Supporter" - Did McCain Cheat On His Wife?

At a town hall meeting in Nashville, Tennessee Monday, this McCain supporter says -- well is this person a supporter? -- this:

My second and final question, you talk a lot about the character issue...and...like you, um, I was opposed to gay marriage, I was in always in favor of civil unions but the basic definition of marriage....but, then I get to thinking, that is based on what we consider to be the sanctity of marriage. There is nothing....you see long-term couples splitting up, it's, it's just crazy...I know that you, your own situation, you're going to have to address that in the campaign. Infidelity is just a terrible cancer on this country....and I think if we're going to talk about...gay marriage, it has to be in the context of the preservation of marriage...which I just don't see it, I think we need to make it more difficult for people to get married, or whatever we need to do..if that's...if we're going to be consistent.

From the website the book The Real McCain, we find this:

Update: From The Real McCain:

Arriving back in the United States in 1973, McCain faced not only his own lingering injuries but also those that his wife had sustained in an automobile accident in 1969. After nine months of intensive physical therapy, he was reinstated to flight status. While stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, he was instrumental in turning around the performance of a Corsair squadron.

His marriage did not recover so well. McCain has admitted to “selfishness and immaturity” and has attributed the breakup of his marriage to his own misdeeds. He has even gone out of his way to exempt Vietnam from any blame. “The blame was entirely mine,” he said.

McCain had already met and romanced, while still married to Shepp, the woman who would be his second wife — Cindy Lou Hensley, seventeen years his junior, the only child of a wealthy Anheuser-Busch distributor from Phoenix.10 Cindy’s father, Jim Hensley, had been a World War II pilot, shot down over the English Channel. In 1955 he formed his company, Hensley & Co., now the country’s sixth-largest beer distributorship. Cindy had gone from cheerleader to rodeo queen to graduate student at University of South Carolina by the time she met McCain in 1979. A year later, McCain and his first wife were granted a divorce; six weeks later, McCain married Cindy.

Then of course, there was the matter of Vicki Iseman, the powerful lobbyist McCain has a cosy relationship with that did not seem to veer into infidelity, but was enough to concern McCain aides.

As this stage of the campaign unfolds, John McCain will have to decide how he's going to adress the character issue, because it seems to result in someone, even a supporter, throwing a figurative brick at his glass house. He should get the Tennessee GOP to stop attacking Senator Obama's wife.

Senator John McCain Has Not Overcome Keating Scandal

We hear a lot about the great Senator and Presidential Candidate John McCain and how he's beyond the point where he can be "bhttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifought" by lobbyists and hasn't taken an earmark. We also get very little information on Senator McCain and the Keating Five Scandal, I think in part because four of the five people involved were Democrats of otherwise great stature. But still, it's a part of history, and of the Keating Five, only John McCain is still in office.

What was the Keating Scandal?

The Keating Scandel is named for Charles Keating, who, during the 1980s was the Chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association of Irvine, Calif., and a big political donor. So much so that five Senators -- Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), Donald W. Riegle (D-MI) -- received $300,000 in contributions from him and McCain himself received $112,000 by 1987 from Keating.

This power enabled Charles Keating to buy their influnce such that when the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB) -- which regulated savings and loan association activities -- worked to curb the 80s trend toward risky investments, which caused the collapse of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which Keating ran. When the FHLBB and its head, Chairman Ed Gray, moved to investigate the Lincoln matter, McCain and the other four Senators asked Gray to step back from any meaningful study of Lincoln.

When that news was revealed by Grey it set off a round of connect-the-dots inquiries, all of which found that:

In October 1989 The Arizona Republic reported that in addition to campaign contributions, McCain's wife and her father had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. The paper also reported that the McCains, sometimes accompanied by their daughter and baby-sitter, had made at least nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard the American Continental Corporation (parent of Lincoln) jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain also did not pay Keating for some of the trips until years after they were taken, after he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln. [3] Lincoln Savings and Loan's collapse is said to have cost taxpayers $3.4 billion

The final outcome was that investigator deemed McCain's involvement to me "minimal." But as we've recently learned The Keating Five matter has not really altered John McCains' close association with people who are major contributors to his campaign, partcularly Federal lobbyists.

This video shows that McCain has had as many as 59 lobbyists raising money for his Presidential campaign including Vicki Iseman, with whom it was rumored he had a "relationship" and the now famous Charlie Black:

What does all of this mean? It means that McCain is still to this day in a great position to be directed to shape government policy by corporate interests in much the same way as he was in the events that lead up to the Keating Five scandal.
